Projects We Love - The Seeker's Guide to Twisted Taverns
about 3 years ago – Sun, Mar 07, 2021 at 02:07:55 PM

Long-time fans of our Kickstarter campaigns know that we occasionally highlight another project that we feel is worth a look. We have a great one of those today, and if you've been following other projects on Kickstarter recently, then for you, this project needs no introduction.

Here's what the creators have to say about this project:

The Seeker’s Guide to Twisted Taverns is a wondrous collection of taverns and inns, all with varying scales of fantasy. This addition is primarily designed for 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons, but also functions as a huge collection of inspiring rooms, characters and more!

Each of these taverns can be enjoyed by any adventurer, and can be scattered across any setting! Ranging from the grim and seedy dealings in the Bloated Bounty to the world shaping Wildaback Tavern, the diversity of each tavern and inn’s culture is a spectacle of its own.

These taverns come populated with a slew of characters, some of which can be found at any location. In addition, these buildings house a wide array of monstrous foes, magic items of varying power, and new mechanics!

When we first saw this campaign, we were very excited. It looked like a super swagged-out, modern and amazing version of our own very first Kickstarter campaign from all the way back in 2013, The Red Dragon Inn Guide to Inns and Taverns. So we got even more excited when the Eldermancy team reached out to us about a possible collaboration! In discussions with their team we found that the natural compatibility in what we were each creating made it incredibly easy to come up crossover content that lightly evoked the other's world while fitting nicely within our own.

The Eldermancy team will be announcing their side of this crossover in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, we're happy to present our side of the crossover - the first of our Collector's Edition Prize Card reveals!

This card hints at the lore of The Seeker while still being a fun, flavorful and quite natural-feeling Red Dragon Inn card. We hope you like it, and we hope you'll check out The Seeker’s Guide to Twisted Taverns! Their campaign ends on Saturday, March 6, so don't miss out!

Phyll Startusk!
about 3 years ago – Sun, Mar 07, 2021 at 02:07:17 PM

We wanted to talk a bit today about Phyll Startusk and how to play him. But first, here's a reminder that it's Thursday and that means that we'll be playing RDI 8 on our Twitch channel at 4 Pacific. On today's stream we'll be giving you the first sneak peek at our stretch goal character Nerodia! Don't miss it!

Nerodia's moment in the sun is coming soon, but this update is about Phyll.

If you haven't read Phyll's backstory yet, do it! We'll wait.

OK, you're back. His deck is pretty straightforward, but it contains a new card type - Mix-ins! Any of you who have ever worked a barista job know that customers love to customize their beverages with all sorts of crazy mix-ins, add-ons, pumps, shavings, etc, etc. Phyll provides this service to his customers with his Mix-in cards.

Mechanically, a Mix-in is almost exactly like many Sometimes Cards you've seen before in The Red Dragon Inn. It is a modifier that can be played on a Drink that adds effects to that Drink.

There are two things special about a Mix-in, though: one bonus, and one restriction. The bonus is that whenever Phyll draws a Mix-in card, he must immediately put it on his Mix-in Shelf, an area above his player mat. While this does broadcast to the table that he has it, it also means that that card can be played from his Mix-in Shelf without taking up a slot in Phyll's hand! So on his next turn he can keep his Mix-ins that are on the shelf and still refill to a full hand of 7 cards.

This flexibility comes with a restriction, though: a Drink may have at most one Mix-in played on it. Once Phyll plays a Mix-in on a Drink, that Drink is immune to further Mix-in messing-with. This rule applies even if the Mix-in is Negated, or if the resulting drink is Ignored, split, passed to someone else, etc.

The Mix-ins themselves often give Phyll an interesting choice. For example, Grass-fed Hippogriff Milk reduces the Alcohol Content of a Drink, but also makes the drinker pay Phyll 1 Gold. If you're playing as Phyll, this card gives you the choice of playing it on one of your own Drinks for a bit of healing or playing it on someone else's Drink to go aggro on their gold stash! Deciding correctly what to do with your Mix-ins is the key to success when playing this deck.

And with that brief desription, you're already an expert in how Phyll plays! Remember that The Red Dragon Inn 8 is available for you to try right this very moment on Tabletop Simulator!

Don't forget to join us on Twitch today at 4 Pacific, to see how Nerodia works! And we'll just leave you with this incredible art piece from Megan Langan:

Thanks again for being awesome, and we'll talk to you again tomorrow!

More Drink Reveals and a Survey!
about 3 years ago – Tue, Mar 02, 2021 at 08:41:06 PM

Hi again, folks! Today's post includes new drink reveals from The Harmonious Cup to cap off the past few days of Farai-related content. But first, we have some questions for you, in the form of a Google Forms survey!

We are looking into various potential add-ons, including extra cardboard coins (original or "coins of the world"), metal coins of the world, and a new storage box. In the case of the coins of the world, we have the opportunity to make something pretty swagalicious, but it may not be cheap. In the case of the new storage box, we previously said that we were doing something separately from this campaign, but progress has proceeded to the point where we might be able to make it an add-on here before offering it for general sale.

To be clear: the existence of this survey should not be construed as any kind of a promise to make any of these things available to you - either as add-ons, or, for that matter, ever. Sorry to be a downer on people's excitement, but we need to get an accurate understanding of potential demand before we can commit to any product (and the fixed costs associated with making it!) Thanks for your understanding, thanks for your patience, and most importantly, thanks for your survey responses!

OK, enough expectation management. Here are the rest of the drinks from The Harmonious Cup! Enjoy!

(Remember, you can always see all of the cards revealed so far on our website!)
