Latest Updates from Our Project:

Add-Ons!
about 3 years ago – Wed, Mar 17, 2021 at 03:20:16 AM

OK, you've all been very patient while waiting for us to work things out, and we have (almost) everything ready to announce, so without further ado, here is the information about add-ons that will be available after the campaign in BackerKit.

First, some nitty-gritty logistical details.

Regions: Add-ons will be available to backers from the US, Canada, Europe (EU or not), Australia and New Zealand.

VAT in UK and EU: For backers in the UK and the EU, VAT will be charged on all add-ons. This includes additional copies of RDI 8 beyond what you are receiving for your pledge level. We therefore strongly recommend that all European backers choose a pledge level here in Kickstarter. If you pledge $1 and later add an RDI 8 to your order in BackerKit, you will be charged VAT (unfortunately, there is no way for us to set this up differently on BackerKit's platform). As we stated in the comments, we intend for the shipping cost listed on the campaign page to include VAT for your base game, but you will need to pick a pledge level to ensure that only your add-ons and not your base game get taxed.

No extra shipping fees for add-ons: One more important detail about add-ons: your base shipping fee charged in BackerKit covers ALL of your shipping, even for add-ons. This is true for ALL backers, not just ones in Europe. This is a small way for us to say thanks to our devoted fans.

OK, with the details out of the way, now to the add-ons!

Other games: First, we are of course offering other games, if you'd like to add them to your order. Here are the games being offered and their prices (in USD):

Extra copies of RDI 8: You can also add extra copies of RDI 8 to your order. The cost for each edition is the same as it is here in Kickstarter.

Campaign Coins: We are offering several items from Campaign Coins, two old, one new. First we'll be offering discounts on the existing 5-player coin set and the Gambling In/Out coin sets that we offer on our website:

And yes, we WILL be offering metal versions of the "Coins of the World". Here's what we know so far: Campaign Coins is creating prototypes for each of the coins, including several different flavors of the large elf coin. We will be offering a product as an add-on that has 10 of each of the five coin designs in a drawstring bag. Final price point will be determined mainly by which of the elf coin designs we decide is the best. This will not be a Kickstarter exclusive or attached to any pledge level. It is simply a new product we are offering, and you will be among the first people to have access to it. We will keep you posted as we know more. In the meantime, here are some schematics from Campaign Coins!

Cardboard Coins of the World: If you like the new Coins of the World, but decide not to spring for the fancy metal versions, you can get extra coin sheets if you like. Each copy of RDI 8 will come with 10 of each new coin, but if you'd like more, each extra set of 10 of each coin will cost you just $5!

The Red Dragon Inn Character Vault: But wait, there's more! Remember when we said earlier that we would consider a new storage solution, but that it wouldn't be a part of this campaign? Turns out we managed to put something together in time to offer it as an add-on. Presenting The Red Dragon Inn Character Vault!

What is the Character Vault? It's a new overflow storage solution for those who need it. It has the same dimensions and internal layout as an RDI 5 box - it's about 12.5" x 15.5" x 4", and divided into 4 columns, with a subdivided well in the corner for oversize cards and player mats. Here's a prototype image:

The Character Vault will be offered as an add on for $30.

Here are three important things that the Character Vault is not:

  • The Character Vault is NOT a bigger storage box than the others that already exist. As we've stated before, we do not intend to make a larger storage box than this.
  • The Character Vault is NOT a new game product. It has no contents at all - no new characters, no promo cards, no foam blocks, no plastic baggies, nothing. It's just a new storage box.
  • As with the metal Coins of the World, The Charater Vault is NOT a Kickstarter exclusive, nor is it attached to a pledge level. It is simply a new product that you will be among the first to have access to.

Thanks for reading this far! If you have questions, ask them here in the comments. Thanks, and we'll see you tomorrow!

All About Nerodia
about 3 years ago – Tue, Mar 16, 2021 at 03:46:19 PM

You unlocked her, so now it's time to learn all about Nerodia!

Nerodia took over the Black Dragon Depths from its previous inept owner. Since then, she has turned it into a bustling tavern. It's the premiere place to find a henchperson or to get hired as one.

Mechanically, Nerodia has a fairly simple mechanic that leads to some interesting choices. Near her player mat, she keeps a Petrification Pile of cards temporarily stolen from other players' hands. Many of her cards have one of two keywords: Petrify or Glare.

When a player must Petrify cards, they give that many cards of their choice from their hand to Nerodia face down. She puts them in a random order on the bottom of her Petrification Pile. (She does not get to look at them.) If multiple players must Petrify cards at the same time, they are all randomized together before being put on the bottom of the Petrification Pile.

Nerodia can't keep these cards forever, though. At the beginning of her turn, the top card of the Petrification Pile "decays away", returning to that player's hand. Before that happens, though, Nerodia can try to return Petrified cards via a Glare effect.

Glare X means that as you play the card, you may spend X cards from the top of the Petrification Pile to get the improved Glare effect, such as increased damage on "They say I have a ssstone glare" above. When Nerodia plays a card with an Glare ability, she must declare whether she is using that ability. She then places the appropriate number of cards for the chosen Glare ability underneath the played card. When the played card goes to her discard pile (even if it's Negated or Ignored) she returns all of the attached cards, without looking at them, to their respective players' hands.

Figuring out how to build up a good Petrification Pile and then use it for impactful Glare effects is key to success when playing Nerodia. Check out the video from our recent Twitch stream to see Nerodia in action!

And yes, Nerodia is a villain, which means that she can be played in a Boss Battle! In boss mode, her mechanics are the same, but she is a bit angrier, a bit hulkier, and a bit more turn-you-to-stonier. It's also super fun to play, and you can check out another recent Twitch stream in which Sam skillfully piloted Boss Nerodia in a very interesting game!

If you'd like to read more detail about her rules, look here. This document will tell you all the nitty-gritty details about what happens if Nerodia Petrifies a Blessing Card or what happens if Nerodia loses the game while she has cards in her Petrification Pile.

And here's another reminder that you can try the game right now on Tabletop Simulator. (Yes, the mod includes Nerodia!)

And for those of you who are backing the Collector's Edition, we recently got this diagram from our friends at Campaign Coins. We think the metal Nerodia bit is going to turn out awesome, and we'll let you know when we have a prototype to show you.

As usual, if you have questions, hit us up in the comments. Thanks for helping this campaign exceed even our most optimistic estimates. We've got a few more days to go, and we're really excited to see where it ends up!

Talk to you again tomorrow!

Drinks from the Depths!
about 3 years ago – Sun, Mar 14, 2021 at 09:54:57 PM

Due to a couple of extra updates added to the schedule, we're actually starting to run out of time to preview everything! On that note, here is the entire Tavern Deck for The Black Dragon Depths! Enjoy!

As usual, Kickstarter doesn't allow big fancy high-res graphics, so you can head to our website to see the higher-res version along with the rest of the reveals. And also as usual, we're still working on a card back and border treatment for this one, so that's subject to change.

See you tomorrow!

More Collector's Edition Reveals!
about 3 years ago – Sat, Mar 13, 2021 at 06:13:33 PM

We've been keeping you in suspense about the rest of the Collector's Edition content. That suspense ends today! Here are the last Prize and the last Drink to be included in the Collector's Edition!

The tavern-specific food and drink theme wasn't actually intentional, but we like that it worked out that way.  :-)

And finally, we have the party pawn to show you!

Amazing art by velrock!

This pub crawl pawn will be over 2 inches tall and will be awesome! Small disclaimer - this art is subject to change: things often get tweaked to make the sculpt more manufacturing-friendly (easier to make, harder to break, etc). But we're really excited about this component so we wanted to share!

Talk to you all tomorrow!

How to play Samantha
about 3 years ago – Sat, Mar 13, 2021 at 04:34:43 PM

Samantha the Bookie is a very clever businesswoman. Few entrepreneurs could take the seeming downside of "fights always break out at my tavern" and turn it into a prime selling point for the venue - but that's exactly what she's done with The Scurvy Dog.

Mechanically, Samantha falls into the category of characters with side decks that aren't super complex to play. She has a 14-card side deck of Brawlers, and a bunch of her main deck cards tell her to Start a Brawl.

Starting a Brawl works exactly the way you'd think: you reveal the top card of the Brawler Deck and do what it says. It counts as though it were an Action Card played by Samantha, so it can be reduced, Ignored, hit back, etc. Importantly, the Brawler Card is completely separate from the card that cause that Brawler to be revealed, so Ignoring the card that Starts a Brawl does not protect you from the Brawler that appears!

So Brawls are pretty straightforward, but there's one additional mechanic going on here. As the bar gets livelier, Samantha keeps track of how many Brawls have occurred and accrues little bonuses as a result.

Your Brawl Count starts the game at 0 and goes up whenever a Brawler Card is revealed. The number increases right away, because it doesn't care whether the Brawler Card is reduced, Negated, Ignored, etc.

If the Brawl Count gets to 4, then Samantha loses 1 Alcohol Content.

If the Brawl Count gets to 7, Samantha gains a Gold from the Inn.

If the Brawl Count gets to 10, then for the rest of the game, during Samantha’s Order a Drink Phase, she orders an additional Drink (so she orders two drinks instead of the usual one).

Samantha is flavorful and super fun to play. Her strategy can be best described as A.B.B. - "Always Be Brawling!" Her main deck is intentionally rather vanilla (albeit with some good old RDI humor and amazing art by Erin Wong). Her Brawler Deck is where the real action is, so keep those Brawlers Brawling!

If you'd like to see Samantha in action, check out the video of our recent Twitch stream showcasing her!

And remember, you can try the game yourself right now on Tabletop Simulator!

If you have any questions about Samantha (or anything else, for that matter), hit us up in the comments. Thanks, and we'll talk to you again tomorrow!
